We’re the proud home of 18 local, independent breweries spanning six suburbs – Marrickville, Newtown, St Peters, Camperdown, Enmore and Rozelle – in Sydney’s inner west*.
Located in a 5km radius, surrounded by amazing artists, restaurants, distillers, music venues, bakers and coffee roasters, we are truly Australia’s craft capital.
The epicentre of Sydney’s indie beer boom, the Ale Trail bubbled up in the mid-2010s as craft-loving pilgrims followed paper maps and paths to new breweries in search of good times and great beer.
Artisan, authentic and always fun, the Trail has become a favourite haven for Sydneysiders and an oasis for interstate and overseas travellers thirsty for world-class beers and unique local experiences.
Ale might be in our name but the Trail represents so much more. In addition to every conceivable beer style (and some new ones, no doubt), we offer warm hospitality, awesome eats, sublime wines and signature cocktails, family-friendly vibes and eclectic events.
Wherever you’re from, whatever you drink, the Inner West Ale Trail is for everyone. See you at the bar.
* Bracket Brewing is the Trail’s 18th brewery – they open later this year.
Founded in 2017, the IWBA is a non-profit, membership-driven organisation that proudly represents the craft beer scene in Sydney’s Inner West and runs the Ale Trail. With 18 member breweries, the Association is led by a board of representatives from founding breweries: Young Henrys, Wayward Brewing Company, Batch Brewing Company, Willie the Boatman, and Grifter Brewing Company.
As a collaborative force, the Association works closely with the broader hospitality and tourism industry, local councils, government bodies, and advocacy groups. Together, they champion the Inner West as Sydney’s top craft beer destination, serving as ambassadors for the rich cultural fabric that defines the area.
The Inner West Ale Trail and its breweries are passionate members and supporters of the national Independent Brewers Association. The IBA works tirelessly with politicians, government bodies, industry associations and international counterparts to represent the interests of Aussie independent brewers.
Look for the IBA’s ‘Certified Independent’ seal on cans and support the industry by always asking for indie beer.
We’re proudly supported by the NSW Government, in partnership with the Inner West Brewery Association. These initiatives aim to boost local awareness and visitation, through innovative marketing and collaboration designed to strengthen the cultural and economic fabric of the District.

The Program supports formally aligned groups of businesses in a local area (District Teams) to collectively work on enhancing their district’s offering and building consumer engagement with their district
The Community Improvement District (CID) Trial Program by Transport for NSW is an Australian-first pilot program to test the viability of diverse CID governance models, aiming to empower local businesses and landowners to improve local spaces and boost local economies, whilst accelerating public-private partnerships in centres across NSW.
